UPDATE: MN State Patrol says alcohol was involved in Hwy 218 crash

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: According to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report, alcohol was involved in a crash that closed Highway 218 south of Austin Friday afternoon.

The report states that a 41-year-old man from Lyle was driving southbound on Hwy 218 and a 53-year-old woman from Austin was driving northbound when the vehicles collided head on.


Both were transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin for non-life threatening injuries.

The report states both were wearing their seatbelts and lists alcohol as being involved in the Lyle man's part of the crash.

According to MnDOT, Hwy 218 has been reopened.

No other details have been provided at this time.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportion, Highway 218 south of Austin is closed due to a crash.

Sergeant Troy Christianson said at 12:42 p.m. there was a head-on crash, two people were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

MnDOT said the temporary detour route is Mower Co. Rd west to Hwy 105 south to Mower Co. Rd 6 east, back to Hwy 218 just north of Lyle.

MnDOT is asking drivers to slow down and watch for law enforcement who are in the area investigating.
