(ABC 6 News) - Austin's movie theatre, the CineMagic 7, is closing its doors for a final time Sunday.
Odyssey Entertainment, the owner of CineMagic 7 and theatres across the midwest, announced Friday that Sunday, February 21 will be the final day of the theater in Austin, attributing the decision to being unable to reach a new agreement with the property owner, Hy-Vee, and the pandemic.
In the announcement Friday, the company went on to say that they have been hit particularly hard by the COVID Pandemic, by two government shutdowns, patron congregating fears and film studios delaying all major releases due to the pandemic.
"Austin has been a great community to do business in," said Steve Tripp, President of Odyssey Theatres. He went on to say, "We have incurred substantial losses there in the last year alone and just simply can not continue to do so."
Customers holding passes or gift cards can still be used this weekend or in the future at the CineMagic Hollywood 12 Theatres in Rochester.
