(ABC 6 News) - The Austin Bruins hosted Team USA's 18 and under team Monday in a scrimmage.
Team USA reached out to Bruins Head Coach and General Manager Steve Howard about playing a scrimmage a few weerks ago, and he jumped at the opportunity.
"We're going to have the best of the best of the under 18s here. It's their draft year, and it'll be eye-opening for some of our guys to see some of the top-end talent in the world," Howard said.
The players were thrilled for the chance to play against a team filled with future NHL players.
"It kind of lights a fire under you as you said, energizes you a little bit more, to play a team like this to really show what I have," Bruins defenseman Travis Shoudy said.
As a scrimmage, the statistics and outcome of the game don't matter, but the focus and energy still matter in the eyes of Howard.
"I don't care if we're playing against the St. Cloud Norseman, or Aberdeen Wings or Team USA over there. We've got to bring it every night," Howard said.
