(ABC 6 News) – The 14th annual ice fishing tournament Fishing for a Cure took place Saturday afternoon in Austin.

Part of Paint the Town Pink, all proceeds go to The Hormel Institute for cancer research.

About 155 people came out to participate at East Side Lake this year.

There were cash prizes for first, second, and third place. First place won $300, second won $200, and third place won $100. There was also a $100 raffle drawing and door prizes.

“The local area has always been a good supporter of all things like that. Our business community is super awesome. Everything that is on the silent auction has either been donated by a business or community member,” Glenn Newman, one of the event coordinators, said.

The entry fee to fish was $20 which included your drilled holes in the ice, the bait, and more.

“Their button to fish, it includes their meal at The Eagles, and then it also puts them in for that $100 raffle,” Hayley Erdahl said. Erdahl and her father, Newman, both organize this event.

It’s a great event for the whole family.

“Anywhere from two (years old) to I think grandpa is out there and he’s 83. So, my nephew and my husband’s grandpa are out there,” Erdahl said.

Next Saturday is the Smashing Cancer Demo Derby at the Mower County Fairgrounds.
