Wednesday marks 18 years since nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
President Donald Trump joined others in an observance at the Pentagon later Wednesday.
In Minnesota, members of The Front Line Foundation honored first responders with a ceremony in Lake Elmo. The nonprofit works to support law enforcement officers, SWAT team members, EMT professionals, firefighters and Minnesota National Guard members, among others, and their families.
There are more than 60,000 first responders in Minnesota. The Front Line Foundation said it's provided support to six Minnesota families so far this year, including the family and friends of helicopter pilot Timothy McDonald, who died on the job in a crash in Brainerd this summer.
The foundation's work goes beyond lending support to families, but also helps provide tactical equipment for first responders.
