Minneapolis police are investigating what they call a double-homicide after two women were found dead in an apartment complex Saturday night.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to the apartment building along the 300 block of 2nd Avenue SE at about 10:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired. It is a housing complex for seniors and disabled adults.
Upon arrival, officers found the two women, who appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds, in the apartment complex. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Friends who spent part of the evening with the women confirmed they are have a mother and daughter relation.
According to authorities, 67-year-old Eileen Mark lived at the complex and her 42-year-old daughter Jennifer Angerhofer stopped by to visit.
Authorities said the suspect, or suspects, who shot them had fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Police and the Community Engagement Team canvassed the surrounding area to speak with those who may have seen or heard anything leading up to, or during, the incident. Meanwhile, investigators from the department's homicide unit and crime lab processed the scene and collected evidence.
"Part of the investigation will include getting video from surrounding areas, personal video and professional security video," said John Elder, a Minneapolis police spokesperson.
More from KSTP:
The complex is located in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood of Southeast Minneapolis, where there is not a lot of crime and not nearly as much gunfire as some parts of the Twin Cities. On Sunday, as one resident approached the controlled access at the entrance, she said she wondered how the suspect got inside.
"Nine times out of 10 they probably knew the person because you have to buzz somebody in, not just anybody can walk in here. They had to know the person who committed the crime," replied Marcie Washington, a resident.
