Hot and dry weather is helping the mosquito season in Minnesota so far this summer.

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) says the weather is producing fewer bugs this year.

Workers trying to control mosquitoes went out to Joy Park in Maplewood on Wednesday.

The dry weather and warm temperatures this spring should keep the mosquito population down.

"Luckily, it's been a very dry spring and early summer," Kathy Beadle with MMCD said. "As long as we don't get over an inch of rain, usually you won't see a big crop of mosquitoes come out."

In trying to avoid the bugs, officials advised using mosquito repellent, wearing light-colored clothing and staying indoors during dusk and dawn.
