Calhoun Square has been a fixture of the Uptown scene in Minneapolis for over three decades. The indoor mall has had its troubles and was recently sold and purchased once again.
"No, I'm not necessarily surprised because Calhoun Square seems to kind of turn hands quite a bit over the years. So no, I can't say I'm totally surprised by that," said Robert Andert, who was shopping at Calhoun Square.
This time Calhoun Square was bought by Northpond Partners out of Chicago. Their website says Northpond focuses on "the acquisition, development and redevelopment of retail and mixed-use properties."
Calhoun Square is 180,000 square-feet with an attached five-level 730-car parking garage. Alistair Parry with Northpond Partners told KSTP they closed on the property Nov. 4. Over the next three to six months, they will meet with consultants to figure out what will work when it comes to tenants.
"I'm not sure what the issue is, but I feel like there's something with access," shopper Jaimie Morimoto said. "Maybe free parking would go a long way."
The new owners will also reach out to the community and Uptown Association, Inc. for their input.
