Northern and western Minnesota are the areas of concern during the day Friday, according to the MPCA. Later on, smoke is expected to move into the atmosphere across southern Minnesota.

Saturday, air quality in a stretch of the state from St. Cloud to Rochester -- including the Twin Cities -- will be affected beginning around midday.

A south wind will bring cleaner air to the state by Sunday afternoon, the MPCA said.

The unhealthy air quality can impact those with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, people with heart disease or high blood pressure, children and old adults and people who spend extended time outdoors.
