Minnesota leads the nation in number of cases reported in a current outbreak of multi-drug resistant salmonella infections that have been linked to raw turkey products, Center for Disease Control numbers show.
The outbreak has led to 40 people being hospitalized but no deaths.
The notice said the outbreak strain has been identified in samples taken from raw turkey pet food, raw turkey products and live turkeys. However, a single common supplier of raw turkey products or live turkeys has not been identified.
The CDC is advising people handling raw turkey products to follow the following steps:
The next closest state to Minnesota was Illinois with nine cases reported. New York and Texas each had eight.
