With opening day of pheasant season starting Saturday, Gov. Mark Dayton will mark the occasion in Marshall with a community banquet. The banquet is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Southwest Minnesota State University.
The season officially begins at sunrise on Saturday.
2. St. Thomas to Dedicate New 2-Year College
St. Thomas University will host a dedication for Doughtery Family College, the school's new two-year college. According to the university, the two-year college was designed to expand access to higher education for underserved students.
The event is at 11 a.m. Friday at the University of St. Thomas' Minneapolis campus.
Crew continue to fight wildfires that are raging through California wine country. According to the Associated Press, the fire has grown to 300 square miles, an area as large as New York City.
Interstate 35E is set to close between Interstate 694 in Vadnais Heights and I-35 in Columbus. The closure will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic is planned to detour on I-694, I-35W and I-35.
The Twin Cities can expect to see a clear sky on Friday before showers move in Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 60 degrees.
