President of gymnastics facility in Mason City faces charges of sexually abusing minors

(ABC 6 News) – The president of Active Kids Gymnastics in Mason City has been arrested after criminal complaints were filed accusing him of sexually abusing minors.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Douglas Hagenow is facing one count of second-degree sexual abuse for a child under the age of 12 and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse for a child between the ages of 12 and 13.

Active Kids Gymnastics’ Facebook page still shows the facility is currently open with normal business hours, but has a closed sign posted on the door. The organization’s last post on social media was on Oct. 18.

ABC 6 News reached out to Active Kids Gymnastics for a statement but has not heard back.

According to court documents, the reporter abuse involved minors and happened between 2009 and 2014.

Hagenow’s LinkedIn profile states he’s been with this gymnastics program for over a decade and his work history shows he was with USA Gymnastics for almost 30 years.

Court documents say Hagenow is currently in custody and is being held on $50,000 cash bond.

The Mason City Police Department told ABC 6 News that it is not releasing any other information at this time due to the sensitive nature of the case. It has now been handed over to The Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Hagenow’s preliminary court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2021.
