Byron baseball remaining calm and level-headed as wins accumulate

(ABC 6 News) — There’s something special about being undefeated in sports. With every victory, confidence grows but so does the pressure to remain undefeated.

The Byron Bear baseball team (12-0) has been a standard of excellence as they push to get back to the section championship and this time finish the job.

In the latest Class AAA rankings, the Bears ranked fifth.

Some notable wins they have are beating Rochester Lourdes twice – including a shutout at a rain-filled Mayo Field on April 29 — and two come-from-behind victories over Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

On Saturday the Bears throttled Faribault 19-6.

Bears head coach Ryan Hanson says the team just tries to keep a level-headedness every time they take the field.

"While the records have a lot to do with playoff implications and seeding and everything, winning ten games in a row doesn’t mean the next one is going to be easy," Hanson said.

"So we just keep grinding every day, try to get better every day and that’s really what we focus on."

Since April 23, the Bears have averaged about 7.5 runs per game.

They will look to keep their undefeated season going when they take on the Stewartville Tigers Monday at 5 pm.
