#5 Hayfield GBB loses perfect season bid, Class A semifinal to Minneota

(ABC 6 News) — The perfect season is gone as are state title hopes for Hayfield Girls Basketball.

The Vikings of Hayfield GBB were humbled in their first loss of the 2021-22 season on Friday, 53-45 to Minneota.

The unseeded Minneota Vikings went into the game as the Class A defending champions and will have a shot at winning a second straight state title on Saturday.

Following the loss, Hayfield GBB Head Coach Kasey Krekling spoke to ABC 6 Sports Reporter José Solís on what had transpired.

"This team executed the game plan brilliantly at the beginning of the game today to build a lead. Unfortunately, we got hit with extreme foul trouble and Minneota was able to make a comeback. We are looking forward at a chance to end our season with a win tomorrow in the 3rd place game vs Mayer Lutheran."

Hayfield’s match against Mayer Lutheran is at 11 AM on Saturday at Concordia University and can be seen on MN Prep Spotlight.
