Local public schools offer free meals to children during closures

Rochester Public Schools will be providing all children, ages 0-18, free meals from March 18 - 26.

Drive-up meals will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Riverside Elementary
  • John Adams Middle School
  • Mayo High School


Austin Public Schools will be providing all children, ages 1-18, free meals from March 18 - 27. 

Students or parents/guardians can pick up the free bag lunch and breakfast for the following day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations : 

Bus location: 

  • Banfield Elementary School 
  • Neveln Elementary School 
  • Southgate Elementary School 
  • Sumner Elementary School 
  • Woodson Kindergarten Center
  • Mandolin Apartments 
  • Meadows West Apartments
  • Oakland Park
  • Austin Park
  • Murphy's Creek
  • City Limits Apartment

Drive-up locations: 

  • Austin High School - Hastings Gym parking lot
  • IJ Holton Intermediate Shcool
  • Palmer Bus Depot - 409 11th St NE

Albert Lea Area Schools are providing children ages 1-18 with free meals while schools are closed. 

Breakfast, lunch and a snack will be distributed to children from school buses at several locations. 

Meals can be picked up by parents/guardians, grandparents, or children. 

Meal pick up service begins March 18 and will continue Mondays through Fridays while schools are closed. Pick up at the following locations from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: 

  • Southwest Middle School
  • Albert Lea High School
  • Halverson Elementary
  • Hawthorne Elementary
  • Lakeview Elementary
  • Albert Lea YMCA
  • Brookside Education Center
  • Hollandale Christian School
  • The ROCK
  • 1st Baptist in Clarks Grove
  • Hayward Lutheran Church
  • St. Theodore's Parking Lot
  • Parking Lot (600 East 14th St.) 


Kasson-Mantorville Public Schools

We have decided to distribute lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in five different locations throughout our two communities during the school closure to meet the needs of our families. In addition to the lunch, students will also be provided a breakfast for the next day.  

The number of sites may be expanded or reduced in the future, dependent on the number of meals served at that location. The sites chosen for distribution are:

  • Windsor Court on the south side of Kasson near the HWY 57/HWY 14 Park and Ride
  • St. John’s Lutheran Church,  301 8th Ave NW in Kasson
  • Riverside Park in Mantorville (near the dam)
  • Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School Main Entrance
  • Kasson Mantorville High School North Entrance

If students and parents are unable to pick up at the locations, delivery to children's homes will be provided as needed. Please call before 10 a.m.for home delivery. 


Owatonna Public Schools will be providing free meals to all children ages 18 and under. Each child will be provided a sack lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following day. Children must be present in order to receive meals.

  • Wilson Elementary
  • Owatonna Middle School

Fillmore Central

Breakfast and lunch will be available at no charge for all students. Families need to sign up here

Meals will be prepared in Preston and available to be picked up at the following locations: 

  • Preston school building (door 15) from 8 - 9 a.m.
  • Fountain (trail-head parking lot) 8:15 a.m. - 9 a.m
  • Greenleafton (church parking lot) 8:15 a.m. - 9 a.m
  • Harmony school building (door 8) 8:15 a.m. - 9 a.m
  • You may also indicate on the form if these pick-up locations do not work for you.


Dover-Eyota Public Schools

Beginning Wednesday, March 18 the school will offer meals to Dover-Eyota Students for pickup through March 26.

ORDER FORM. Orders for Wednesday - Friday, March 18 - 20 need to be placed by 10 pm Tuesday, March 17. Orders for Monday - Thursday, March 23 - 26 must be placed by 10 p.m. Sunday night (March 22).

Chatfield Public Schools

School personnel will communicate with families the time frame in which food (breakfast/lunch) will be distributed. Families will drive to their home school or alternative location, provide their name and a sacked breakfast and lunch will be given. Each family will be provided with one meal per eligible child.


Mason City Schools

The current students that are a part of the food assistance program will continue to receive food during the time that the school buildings are closed. The Child Nutrition Department is working closely with our Transportation Department and support staff to plan for meals on a regular basis.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, students will be able to pick up meals in their neighborhoods between 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Exact locations to be determined.


Charles City Community School District

The current program will l be portable take-home food, distributed from the bus line at Washington Elementary School.

Please remain in your vehicles as this is a distribution site only. Food distribution will begin on Thursday, March 19, beginning at 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. It will be available to all children 18-years old and younger, regardless of income level.


Northwood-Kensett Community School

Students will be offered to have free, prepackaged, breakfast and lunch delivered by transportation and support staff. To participate, please follow the instructions on the school website

Meal pick up and delivery begins on March 20. Locations and pick up times

  • The loading dock at the back of the secondary building in Northwood (weekdays from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.)
  • The West bus stop in Kensett (weekdays from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.)
  • The East bus stop in Kensett (weekdays from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.)
  • Along the regular routes for all of our rural bus routes at your usual morning school pick up time (yes, we will deliver to your door if you are on a rural route)


Lyle Public School will offer grab and go breakfast and lunches for students age 1 - 18.

Meals can be picked up between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting March 18.

  • Meals can be picked up at the main school doors, 700 2nd St
