Crews put out large Albert Lea warehouse fire; evacuated neighbors react

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: 10:58 p.m. 12/3/2020 - Multiple fire crews continue to monitor hot spots from a large warehouse fire at 601 W. Main Street in Albert Lea that started around 8:11 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Albert Lea Police Department's Facebook page, an officer was the one who discovered the fire.

Albert Lea fire crews say they don't know the cause at this time but did note that there were squatters in the building when they arrived.

Crews said 13 homes in the area of Euclid Avenue, West College Street, and Adams Avenue have been evacuated and residents were brought to the United Methodist Church.

A public safety alert has also been issued; Freeborn County Emergency Management says any residents affected by the fire can to go to the United Methodist Church for assistance.

Officials say at this time; no injuries have been reported.

Albert Lea Fire Rescue and other emergency personnel are responding to a massive fire in the 600 block of West Main St. 

According to the Albert Lea Police Department, an ALPD Patrol Officer discovered the fire at 8:11 p.m. Residents of 13 homes around were evacuated because of heavy smoke.

Witnesses say buses are assisting in taking displaced families to United Methodist Church.

Albert Lea, Austin Glenville Fire, Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff's Office are all on scene.

At this time, it's unknown what caused the blaze. We have crews on the scene and will provide the latest information when it becomes available.
