ABC 6 News) - A woman has died after being involved in a fatal rollover Friday morning in Freeborn County.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office the incident occurred on March 20 just after 11:00 a.m. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a Freeborn County Highway Department worker who reported that a vehicle had rolled over on its roof and was partially submerged in a drainage ditch on County Road 30 a ¼ mile south of 200th St.
The sheriff’s office initial investigation determined the Ford Explorer, driven by Joyce Chapek of Albert Lea, was northbound on County Road 30.  The vehicle lost control due to icy road conditions and went down into the ditch on the east side of the road, rolling onto its roof.
No occupant could be seen inside the passenger compartment, which was under water. The vehicle was flipped back onto the wheels by the highway department and they saw Chapek belted in the drivers seat.
Chapek was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenville Fire and Rescue, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene.
