(ABC 6 News) - The Albert Lea Police Department was investigating a missing person's report from June 27. On Sunday the police department contacted the Sheriff's office to help assist in a search at Fountain Lake, Sheriff Freitag said that the Albert Lea Fire department was already on scene.
Sheriff deputies used a boat with a sonar device to try to locate the victim, but instead, a loved one spotted the 18-year-old male who has been identified as William Edward Bair, near the shore.
Sheriff Freitag said that incidents like this are very unusual and uncommon in the area, but there is no reason to believe there was foul play involved.
The incident is still under investigation.
(ABC 6 News) -- A group of family and friends gathered at the shore of Fountain Lake in Albert Lea after finding out that a missing loved one had been recovered from the water on Sunday.
A family friend said that the 18-year-old male had gone missing early Friday morning. The father filed a missing persons report and many reached out on Facebook for information on the individual's whereabouts. The woman shared that she received a text from her son Sunday afternoon saying his friend's body had been found. She added that the victim's hat and cell phone were recovered in the area near Lakeview Blvd. and Edge Water Park.
At the lake, others close to the family confirmed that the 18-year-old had been recovered from the water. The woman said the news was fresh to the family and there was no further comment.
ABC 6 News reached out to the Freeborn County Sheriff's office and we're waiting to hear back from them.
