(ABC 6 News) - As Albert Lea shifts to distance learning, their athletics will also undergo a change as the school will stop fall sports after Nov. 17.
The fall football and volleyball seasons will be done after Tuesday. Football may have the chance to play next week in sections if the game is on or before Nov. 17. However, no postseason will be played for volleyball as the section tournament starts at the end of the month.
All school activities including practices and games are being put on pause in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus in the area, which would ensure the safety of winter sports.
"Yes it's going to impact activities, winter activities as well. Hopefully what we're doing now is sufficient and it doesn't extend too far into the winter where we don't have to cancel any event. There is a possibility that that could happen," Albert Lea Athletic Director Paul Durbahn said.
The school will take another look at how activities function by Dec. 3.
