Cindy comes to ABC 6 News with a variety of experiences. She has forecasted for 6 out of 7 continents. She has experience in forecasting for oil rigs, airplanes, lake effect snow, and severe weather. Cindy’s story began when she graduated from St. Cloud State in 2004 with her B.S. in Meteorology. Cindy’s first job was at KIMT in Mason City, Iowa. That’s where she became familiar forecasting for Southern Minnesota and North Iowa. In 2007 Cindy began work at WNEM in Saginaw, Michigan. While in Michigan she honed her skills in lake effect forecasting and the effects large bodies of water have on climates.
In early 2010 she made the decision to leave television and move with her now-husband, Brian, to Houston, Texas. While there, Cindy worked for the John C. Freeman Weather museum. “It was a unique experience. I forecasted for oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean and the Bay of Bengal. In between forecasting I provided tours of the museum and taught classes to the community.” In 2011 Cindy began work as an Aviation Meteorologist at Universal Weather and Aviation, forecasting for private planes, commercial airlines and helicopters all over the world. “I’ve forecasted for every continent expect for Antarctica. Finding weather data in other countries can be difficult, but I enjoyed the challenge.” Cindy says. She can also tout several achievements. While there, her forecasts were tracked and scored for accuracy. Cindy was able to achieve scores similar to and better than forecasters with 20 years of experience. In the fall of 2014 she returned to broadcasting at KAAL.
Most recently, Cindy has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction from the American Meteorological Society. Certified Broadcast Meteorologists have been tested for their knowledge and demonstrate superior skills in presenting and communicating weather. She completes the tri of meteorologists at KAAL, all who have received this distinction from the AMS.
Cindy is mom to two small children, Grant and Quinn. She also has two golden retrievers, Miguel and Pedro. She has completed multiple half marathons and says she aspires to run a full marathon one day soon. Cindy was a walk-on for the St. Cloud State Huskies in Women’s Basketball and still plays to this day. She enjoys cooking and travelling, and has been to 27 states and 3 countries.Tweets by CindyMorganABC6
