(ABC 6 News) -- From potlucks to pools and visits to the park, a second day of heat isn't stopping residents of Mason City from enjoying their weekend.

Churchgoers at St. James Lutheran held their weekly outdoor services Sunday morning, which they followed with an outdoor potluck.

"I was worried. I was worried that people wouldn't come out today but they came out," Pastor Jeni Bohls said.

A couple dozen people joined in the meal and an impromptu game of kickball.

"(It's) just to increase fellowship time, have some fun in the summer. (It's) nice to be casual and have everybody gather for lunch and enjoy summer together," Bohls said.

At nearby East Park, Emily Belt and her children Mason and Hunter headed to the playground in the morning to beat the worst of the afternoon heat.

"After we get done playing here, we're going to go back and play in the water. We have a pool at home set up for (Hunter) so we'll have some time splashing in the water," Belt said.

And at the nearby campground, families were getting in a few last minutes of summer fun before having to pack up and head home.
