(ABC 6 News) -- The exciting victory for the U.S. Women's Olympic hockey team over Canada Thursday is still a topic of conversation in Rochester this weekend, especially among the hockey circles.

Ten-year-old goalie Isabella Scranton and her family love the sport, so it’s no surprise the victory was big news in their home.

“She was so excited so she had to go and watch all the clips, and after school sure enough first thing she did was watch the entire game again,” Isabella’s mom Cheryl said.

When the kids were young, Cheryl encouraged them to try hockey and soon a love of the sport developed.

“They needed to be in some kind of activity to run off all their extra energy so hockey was a great sport just to start,” she said.

The last time the U.S. women’s team took home Olympic gold, Isabella and her twin brother Isaac, who also plays hockey, weren’t even born. Now, as they train to be the next hockey stars, they have a new team to look up to.

“She can tell you everything about all those USA players because she reads her hockey magazine and she tells me about these girls and they're from Minnesota and it's so exciting and I think that's really cool,” Cheryl said.

Isabella’s goal: “Making it to USA hockey,” she said.
