(ABC 6 News) – The Lourdes Eagles girls tennis team finished in 3rd place at the Class A State Tournament earlier this week—but a pair of Eagles are bringing home state championships.

Lourdes sophomore Clare Palen and junior Natalie Allison won the Class A Individual Doubles Championship at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Friday.

Palen and Allison defeated Eveleth-Gilbert’s Audrey Delich and Madilyn Jankila in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). The Eagles topped Litchfield’s duo of Avery Stilwell and Shanna Kinny in Friday morning’s semifinals (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) to clinch a spot in the State Championship.

Palen and Allison’s state championship is the first individual state championship for Lourdes since 2010 (Brittany Alexander and Margaret Pearson, Class A Doubles).
