(ABC 6 News) - One and a half months after losing their athletic director and their head boys basketball coach on the same day, John Marshall high school has found the successor for the boys basketball team.

Rochester Public Schools announced Friday morning they've hired Jim Daly as the school's next head boys basketball coach. Daly previously served as the head boys basketball coach at Rochester Lourdes from 2003-2017.

Daly said he felt like it was just the right time.  “First of all, I'm a teacher in the Rochester public schools, so I thought coaching at (John Marshall) made sense in that regard,” Daly told ABC 6 News.  “It's time to move over and teach and coach in the public schools. I'm excited for a different conference, and a different section.”

Daly replaces Kirk Thompson. Thompson, who coached the Rockets to five consecutive Section 1AAAA championship game appearances, resigned after compiling a 113-28 record in five years at the school.

In addition to adding a new basketball coach, the Rockets family also welcomed Brian Ihrke from Henry Sibley High School as the new activites director.
