(ABC 6 News)- The Owatonna high school football team has fallen short of a Class AAAAA state championship title three times since 2008, only earning the trophy once in school history, dating back to 2013.
On Saturday, the Owatonna Huskies faced Elk River in the prep bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium, and won without hesitation, 63-26.
The game started off slow both teams only scoring one touchdown in the first quarter. Elk River and Owatonna were tied at 14 in the second quarter, but the Huskies scored one more touchdown in the second quarter to take a 28-14 lead at halftime. The Huskies limited Elk River to just 12 points in the second half, while they racked up 35 points.
Owatonna dominated on offense, rushing for 303 yards and totaling 441 yards on offense. Huskies senior quarterback Abe Havelka contributed with 138 yards and one touchdown. Junior running back, Jason Williamson led the Huskies with 213 rushing yards and five touchdowns, giving the Huskies their second state championship title.
