(ABC 6 News) – The Med City FC Mayhem has a new head coach for their second season on the pitch.

The Mayhem announced via a press release they’ve hired Neil Cassidy as their next head coach. Cassidy replaces Luke Corey after Corey relocated his career to California.

According to the release, Cassidy is “no stranger to coaching in Rochester and Southeast Minnesota,” as Cassidy currently serves as the director of coaching for the Rochester Youth Soccer Association, as well as the head coach for the women’s soccer team at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

In 2009 and 2010, Cassidy was the head coach of the PDL Rochester Thunder, compiling a 15-13-4 record.

“I’m excited to be involved with Med City FC this season,” Cassidy said via the press release. “With the groundwork that the staff put in place last year, and some exciting talent coming in this year, I have high expectations for our season.”

"We're very pleased to have Neil leading the team this season," Med City FC General Manager Frank Spaet said. "We had an outstanding inaugural season and many of the players who helped us experience a lot of initial success are returning. We believe that, with Neil at the helm, we can pick up where we left off and experience even more success both on and off the field."

The Mayhem will kick off their second season on May 9 versus Union Dubuque FC. The game is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. at Rochester Regional Stadium.
