(ABC 6 News)- The Albert Lea Tigers are sending four swimmers to the State Swim and Dive meet this week, and one of them happens to be a freshman.

“Jaeda’s got a lot of drive, ya know she wants to be the best, she has strive that you can’t really match,” Head Coach David Voller said.

Jaeda Koziolek qualified for state in three separate events during the section tournament.  In the 200-yard individual medley relay, she placed fourth with a final time of 2:16.18.  In the 100-yard backstroke, Koziolek finished second, with a time of 1:00, and placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:56.90.

There is no question, Albert Lea’s freshman swimmer is a hard-worker.

“I just try to make the best of all the opportunities I get, so when I dive into the water I think about all the ways I can make my race better,” Koziolek said.

Koziolek is still not old enough to drive, but she understands what it takes to win.

“Jaeda brings a lot of energy and passion to the pool,” Voller said.  “She loves swimming it’s kind of what she does year round and it really effects the other people on the team in a positive way.”

This week, Koziolek will compete in three events at the Minnesota State Swimming and Diving meet.

“My favorite event is the 100 backstroke, that’s what I qualified for state in last year,” Koziolek said.

Koziolek is heading to state for a second-straight year.

“I really think it’s just the work we put in the pool.  “We’ve been working a lot on turns and starts and all the little details,” Koziolek said.

Koziolek isn’t the favorite to win at state this year, so she is hoping to prove some people wrong.

“I’m seeded fourteenth this year so I’m hoping to make the top eight,” Koziolek said.

The State Swimming & Diving tournament begins on Thursday, November 16 and runs through Saturday, November 18.
