“Their experience is so important it’s just something you can’t teach,” Kingsland Head basketball coach John Fenske said.

Kingsland senior center’s Matthew Woods and Ian Meisner have been playing together since the fifth grade.

“I think what really helps is that we’ve been playing for so long together and that we have really good communication,” Ian said.

Ian stands out, literally; he’s 6’8” tall.

“Ian stands out because he’s such a dominant inside player,” Fenske said.

“Ian, he’s really good.  He’s big down low, he can box out really good, (and) he’s one of the biggest guys on the court,” Matthew said.

“Ian’s one of our top scorers,” Fenske said.

Matthew isn’t as tall, but he provides a spark.

“Matthew is energy, he’s going 100% all the time,” Fenske said.

“Nothing is going to stop him, he’s a good down low player and he has a nice outside shot too,” Ian said.

“Matthew is kind of our team leader,” Fenske said.

Their experience together sets them apart.

“We both know where we are going to be when we got the ball.  We know someone is going to be cutting back door or someone will be where they need to be,” Mathew said.

“(They are) Seniors that we won’t be able to replace in the future,” Fenske said.

Ian and Matthew both hope to make it to the state tournament this year, to give the Knights their first ever state tournament appearance.

The Knights return to the court on Tuesday, January 30 against St. Charles.
