(ABC 6 News) – A source has confirmed with ABC 6 News that Duke University head men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will visit Rochester on Friday to watch John Marshall sophomore Matthew Hurt in a closed workout.
After leading John Marshall to their 5th-straight Section 1AAAA championship game appearance and finishing second in the state in individual scoring average per game, Hurt was the lone sophomore to be named to the Associated Press’ all-state first team.
According to multiple recruiting websites, Hurt has as many as 16 scholarship offers (Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Xavier). Duke has yet to offer him a scholarship.
With two years of basketball remaining in his high school basketball career, Hurt is already John Marshall’s all-time leading scorer. Matt surpassed older brother and current Minnesota Golden Gopher, Michael, this past season to become the schools’ all-time leading scorer.
Notre Dame is also expected to attend Friday's closed workout.
