(ABC 6 News) - According to the NY Times, The University of Louisville's Hall of Fame head basketball coach Rick Pitino was fired on Wednesday.

The paper says it comes after an investigation into a scheme involving the school's apparel partner, Adidas. Pitino was accused of funneling money from their partner into two high school prospects.

Pitino released a statement in which he said, “these allegations come as a complete shock to me..."

The Times reports an Adidas executive accused of being involved in the scheme was put on administrative leave. The company also followed with a statement of its own saying Adidas, “is committed to compliance and ethical business practices.”
