Caledonia’s King Finalist for Minnesota Mr. Football

(ABC 6 News) – Caledonia senior quarterback Owen King has been named one of 11 finalists for Minnesota’s Mr. Football Award.

King, who will be playing collegiate basketball at South Dakota State University next year, has led the Caledonia Warriors to two consecutive Class AA state championships, and has helped the Warriors win 39 consecutive games.


This season, King is completing 59% of his passes for 2,378 yards, has thrown 37 touchdown passes and only four interceptions, and has rushed for nine touchdowns.

In 39 starts, per Minnesota Football Hub, King has completed 61.2% of his passes for 7,675 yards, has thrown 129 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions, and has rushed for 23 touchdowns.

Since Minnesota started the Mr. Football Award in 2004, no player from Caledonia has ever won the award. The full list of the 2017 finalists can be found here.

King and the Warriors play Paynesville Area in the Class AA semifinals on Thursday.

Lakeville North running back Wade Sullivan won the 2016 award.

Minnesota Mr. Football will be named at the Mr. Football Banquet on Sunday, December 10 in Minneapolis.
