(ABC 6 News)- The Pine Island Panthers had two good wins over the weekend against Byron and St. Charles, and they couldn't do it without their sophomore guard, Brooke Sinning.

“She really loves to compete,” Head Coach Scott Miller said.

Sinning has been proven to be tough for opponents to guard.

“She works hard, if there is a kid that's leading us and charge is taking, it’s her diving for a loose ball,” Miller said.

This season Sinning averages 18.7 points per game, the best on the team.

“Her quickness is what sets her apart from the girls I’ve seen come through (here),” Miller said.

In Pine Island’s win over Byron on Friday, Sinning scored a career-high 31 points.

“Friday was a really special night for her, we got off to a pretty good start.  First five minutes of the game she controlled the tempo on both ends,” Miller said.  “She had a couple quick steals and a couple assists early on.”

Brooke totaled 31 points and had five steals against the Bears.

“I kept hitting those (free throws and layups) and I guess I was just getting open looks,” Sinning said.

Sinning may be a guard, but she's not afraid to go in the paint.  Sinning totaled 10 rebounds against the Bears.

“She’s a 5'8" point guard that's pulling in ten, twelve boards so she’s working hard for it and she often times boxing out a kid who's physically stronger than she is, but she just has that extra gear to work hard and jump in and go get it,” Miller said.

Sinning is also a star on the softball field and volleyball court, which has translated to her big moments in basketball.

“Every coach she plays for she learns something different from, and she applies it to whichever sport she's in at that time,” Miller said.

“It helps me stay in shape and I play with a lot of the same girls so it creates bonds there too,” Sinning said.
Sinning and the Panthers return to the hardwood on Thursday in Dover-Eyota.
