National Family Volunteer Day

(ABC 6 News) - Saturday, Nov. 18 is National Family Volunteer day and United Way of Olmsted County is getting ready for the celebration.

The day of service recognizes the power of families who work together to support their communities.

Volunteers all over the country will work on a variety of projects like street clean up and make care packages.

This event brings families together, like the Muench family who uses volunteering as way to cope with loss

"My mom passed away last year and my parents are no longer living so that’s kind of a long story short so we really decided to take the extra time that we have on our hands to be able to give back," Deb Muench.

Since 1992 United way has been honoring this day and organizers like Jennifer Teske are hoping to be apart of this for even longer.

“I don’t think that we do that enough and this is an opportunity for your family to connect as well as provide a teaching opportunity and learning opportunity for your kids," Teske, V.P of resource development.

Muench says although they volunteer every month she and her daughter are still excited to be a part of the national event.

Registration is still open and anyone interested can visit their local United Way.
