Veal Sentenced for Mason City Double Murder

September 12, 2017 10:57 PM

(ABC 6 News) - On Tuesday, Peter Veal of Lake Mills was sentenced to two consecutive life terms and 25 years in prison.

Back in July, the 31-year-old was convicted of two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted Murder.

Mason City Police found the bodies of Caleb Christensen and Melinda Kavars in November 2016.

Prosecutors said Veal shot Kavars, stabbed Christensen to death, and tried to shoot Ron Willis. However, Veal's gun jammed, which allowed Willis to escape. Willis then testified against Veal in court.

During the case's proceedings, Veal was also charged with serious assault after allegedly attacking another inmate in jail, but those charges have since been dismissed.
