United Way Request Donations for School Lunches

(ABC 6 News) -- United Way of Olmsted County is rallying to help supply food for Rochester’s students.

The organization says almost 40 percent of Rochester school district students are on free or reduced lunch.

Also, last year the balance of unpaid school lunches racked up to $44,000.

So as part of its "Acts of Kindness" week Jennifer Teske, the vice president of Resource Development says it’s requesting people donate money through a text which will help pay off student’s lunch balances.

"The school is gonna make sure that they're fed at school. When they go home, it may be a different story. So sometimes the only meal that some of these kids are getting is at school," said Teske.

To donate money, all you have to do is text "kind" to 41444 from now until Friday.
