(ABC 6 News)-- Technology is moving rapidly and sometimes we just can't keep up, but our children are getting better and faster on the internet.
There is no stopping to kids being exposed to the internet, but there are better ways to keep them safe on things that are now so easily accessible.
Richard Guerry is the Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cellphone Communication. He says that monitoring your kids online is the same trust you give when giving them keys to your car.
"Rather than focusing on the effect of sexting, we want to fix the cause. And the cause is how we decide to use this very powerful tool designed for communication," Guerry said.
Besides educating parents on providing an open dialogue to what the consequences should be, Guerry also said that using tools like parental control and firewalls should be a reason to start a conversation, not to block one.
