Cold Sunshine, Snow Tomorrow

February 21, 2018 06:35 AM

Be sure you’ve got your hat and gloves today.  Cold air is back and we’re already feeling it this morning with subzero wind chills.  It’s a short-lived cold dip and we return to the 20s again tomorrow, back to the 30s by Friday.

A chance for some light snow Thursday.  We’ll see flurries passing through the region during the day, but by the evening the intensity will pick up a touch, becoming a light snow.  By Friday morning we could wake up to around an inch of new accumulation.  Some locations closer to Albert Lea, Mankato and Owatonna may see a bit more.  But it should be quick to shovel and only slow up travel a bit in the morning.

Saturday brings another Panhandle Hooker through the region.  If you recall, that was the path this last winter system took, dipping down to the panhandle of Oklahoma and Texas then swinging north to us.  Again, we’re near freezing so there will be some mixed precipitation see with this event.  With several more days to go we have a lot of details to look over.  But my gut tells me that while this one will have some mixed precipitation, it won’t be as bad as this last one.  I do think that we’ve got a stronger chance for more snow.  Again, more to come as details immerge.
