(ABC 6 News) -- An ongoing drug investigation led to the arrest of a Stewartville man and the discovery of more than 13 pounds of meth.

According to Captain Vince Scheckel with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, the Southeast Minnesota Violent Crimes Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at a home on the 100 block of 3rd St. NW in Stewartville, around 2:47 p.m. Monday, September 11.  Captain Scheckel said the owner of the home, 35-year-old Derek Thielen, was a suspect in an ongoing drug investigation.

When authorities arrived to Thielen's home, Captain Scheckel said Thielen was outside pouring concrete with his teenage son.  A K-9 officer was brought in, and along with the cooperation of Thielen, the dog was able to sniff out drugs in the wall of Thielen’s garage.  Once authorities opened the wall, Captain Scheckel said they found 13.29 pounds or 6,021 grams of methamphetamine. The meth has a street value of around $10,000/pound, according to Captain Scheckel.

Captain Scheckel says for this specific enforcement team, this is one of the bigger drug busts involving just one person at the time of the arrest.

This is not Thielen's first run-in with law enforcement.  Since 2000 court records show Thielen has been convicted of more than 20 crimes, including felony first-degree drug sales in 2008 in Olmsted County. Thielen is also currently charged in Winona County of first-degree drug sales.

Thielen faces a number of charges in Olmsted County; including two counts of first-degree controlled substance sales, one count of first-degree controlled substance possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Captain Scheckel said they also seized $2,666 in cash from the property.
