(ABC 6 News) -- Two people are facing charges after a vehicle crashed into a railroad crossing pole in Albert Lea Saturday morning.

Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag said deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and 19th Street in Albert Lea just after 2 a.m. after a 2002 Honda Civic took a curve too fast and hit a pole.

Both of the vehicle's occupants fled the scene but were later found. The sheriff's office said the man they believe was driving the car, 20-year-old Donte Love of Albert Lea, was taken by deputies to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with minor injuries.

Love has pending charges of driving after suspension and leaving the scene of a crash, Freitag said. Results of a blood test are pending but could result in an impaired driving charge.

The 20-year-old passenger, Skyler Tovar of Albert Lea, was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
