ROCKchester Kicks Off by Highlighting Local Artists Through Video Series

(ABC 6 News)--While Rochester continues to grow, so does the local music scene and now artists, who otherwise may go unknown are getting their chance to shine in the spotlight.

"I could see us becoming a town that can cater to those up and coming artists, especially those who are younger, trying to do it by themselves," said ROCKchester founder, Dylan Hilliker.

That's exactly what ROCKchester has been doing over the past three years, but this year the festival is going one note further.

"I feel like it's my job with this festival to be able to highlight what's going on and make sure that those artists have the biggest platform possible to be able to show their work. We have so many young, talented people here. I think the community generally overlooks it," Hilliker said.

This year ROCKchester is going beyond the stage and is featuring a handful of artists every Friday during the month of March to drum up awareness before this summer's main event.

"There are people doing some cool stuff here," he said.

Century High School junior, Wyatt Moran is the first artist to be featured in the video series called, "In Their Element."
"It's a great opportunity for us to kind of show what we're about on a smaller scale. I think it's a good entry point into just a few of the artists that are going to be performing and all of the talents that are really hiding underneath here in Rochester," said Moran.

A move that will hopefully put Rochester's talent on the map one note and one song at a time.

The video series is leading up to ROCKchester which takes place on June first and second at Pure Rock Studios.
