Rochester Vigil Honors Shooting Victims, Promotes Healing

October 03, 2017 11:02 PM

(ABC 6 News) - Tuesday night, Caring Acts of Kindness Everywhere (CAKE) and Christ United Methodist Church held a candlelight vigil honoring those who died during the Las Vegas mass shooting.

"We will ring the bell in acknowledgment for Las Vegas victims that were taken way too soon," Caring Acts of Kindness Everywhere member Danielle Teal said.

After the bell tolls, there was a final moment of silence for victims of all worldwide disasters, and then, there was a chance for people to talk through their feelings

"I can't even put it into words," Kevin Reffruschinni said. "To hurt so many people in this country, it hurts me so badly, it just sickens me."

Reffruschinni lived in Las Vegas for more than 2 years in the early 1990s. He was thankful for the support to work through his emotions.

"I can come here and express myself to relieve the pain I have about living in Vegas and being a part of people who hurt also," Reffruschinni said.

However, people in the community haven't given up hope, they're looking forward.

"After the gatherings and the vigils, it's incredibly important for people to start thinking about what we can do to make a difference, in many different ways," Teal said.

Another vigil will be taking place Wednesday night in Rochester. The group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is leading it at Peace Plaza at 6 p.m.
