The aerial perspective has helped officers track down three suspects and locate at least two missing people.

Rochester police said one of those happened last week when a search helicopter was unable to look for an 84-year-old man in Byron.

“Despite having a number of boots on the ground, with people actively searching, this gentleman was not located, and without the drone, he likely would not have been,” Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin said.

Sherwin also said the drone has also been used nearly a dozen times by neighboring agencies.
