City of Rochester Calls for Investigation into Waste Management Complaints

January 02, 2018 11:01 PM

(ABC 6 News) - Many people in the Rochester area have complained on social media and to city officials about their trash not being picked up on time.

Tuesday night ABC 6 News spoke with Rochester City Councilor Nick Campion. He's received many complaints from people in his ward. However, it's not something the city of Rochester can fix. Campion said, however, the city contacted Olmsted County to find out what's going on.

"Olmsted County is actually the body that licenses garbage collections,” Campion said. “There is a formal process the county can basically ask [to] investigate and provide a written explanation of what's happening."

A Waste Management spokesperson told ABC 6 News that "icy conditions" and "subzero temperatures," along with their recent merger with GarbageMan, has caused these issues. She said they're working to correct these problems as soon as possible.

Campion also told ABC 6 News that the county made contact with Waste Management about these issues Tuesday afternoon.
