(ABC 6 News) - State troopers have been busy over the holiday weekend. Since Friday, troopers have issued 320 DWI's statewide. That includes 101 DWI's on Sunday and another 84 DWI's from midnight to 8 a.m. Monday.

Locally the number of DWI's were small. The Albert Lea Police Department had 2 DWI over the weekend, while the Freeborn County Sheriff's had zero.

Meanwhile, the Austin Police reports just 1 DWI over the same time span while the Mower County Sheriff's Office reported 2.  Authorities say it seems, for the most part, people made an effort to take advantage of sober drivers. They say the cold weather most likely played a part as well.

Numbers from the Olmsted County Sheriff's office weren't immediately available. However, the Rochester Police Department's lone DWI from Sunday night was an interesting one in regards to the passenger... a cat.

Officers say the driver in question claimed to have been giving the cat a ride to "someone in detox". They say it appears though the driver was drunk and crashed his vehicle on the way. That said, the police report was incomplete and no other details were available Monday morning.

Getting back to the overall statewide numbers...  Troopers issued 25,190 DWI's in 2017.
