New Learning Space made to ‘Empower’ Pre-Schoolers

(ABC 6 News) - It was truly a transformation Tuesday for the former Gage East School in northwest Rochester.

The new Empowerment Center was unveiled, which will provide support programs to low-income and homeless families.  The space includes five classrooms for Head Start, a free preschool for qualifying families.

Officials chose the location because it's so close to where they provide other services to families in need.

“Moms and dads can bring their children right over here, they don't even have to put a coat on they can just walk over here from next door and they feel real safe knowing their children are taken care of," Executive Director of Families First Minnesota, Jon Losness said.

The Gage East Apartments next door house homeless families and students who will likely use the classrooms.
