(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Police said a man used an ice scraper to fight off a robber Monday night.

Around 10:15 p.m. on January 22, Captain John Sherwin said a 22-year-old man went to warm up his car in the parking lot of the Gates of Rochester, located at 2015 41st St. NW.  The man told officers someone grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground.  The victim said the suspect put a knife to his face, threatened to stab him and demanded money, said Captain Sherwin.

The victim said he told the suspect he didn’t have any money, but the suspect did take his cellphone.  Captain Sherwin said the victim was able to kick the suspect off of him, and was able to use an ice scraper to fight him off.

Police were able to track the suspect’s footprints from the apartment complex, across 41st Street and to a neighborhood south of 37th Street.  The victim described the suspect as a black man, in his early 20’s, around 6 feet tall and 175 pounds.  He also said the suspect had short hair with little to no facial hair, and was wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and dark gray sneakers.

If you have information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
