(ABC 6 NEWS) -- When you think of economic drivers in Rochester, health care often comes to mind … but groups like Collider and Rochester Area Economic Development Inc. (RAEDI) are looking to continue growing the Entrepreneur workforce.

Nate Nordstrom is getting ready to launch a new job board for Southeastern Minnesota; called Hubsource.

Nordstrom is Founder and C.E.O. of Brandhoot. The tech company, launched in a small attic almost 6 years ago, has grown to a global business; employing 10 local people.

“Rochester has been a really good community to start a business in,” says Nordstrom. “If you get involved and start making connections, you can do that rather quickly.”

Helping others like Nordstrom network is the goal of the 5th annual Global Entrepreneurship Week, organized by Collider and RAEDI.

“This week, we are doing 19 events over 5 days,” says Jamie Sundsbak with Collider.

From professional development seminars to an award ceremony, the campaign is all about highlighting the role of entrepreneurship in the community. One of which is diversification.

“It makes sense for all the changes that have gone through in the past legislature - and may come through in this legislature - in health care to just have alternatives,” says Xavier Frigola, the Director of Entrepreneurship for RAEDI.

According to RAEDI, there are about 50 tech companies based in Southeastern Minnesota. “These companies account for about 70 - 80 local jobs,” says Frigola.

Investments made a few years ago are also starting to show results.

“Now we are actually seeing buildings going up, we are actually seeing companies continue to grow to the point where someday they can inhabit those buildings,” says Sundsbak.

Business owners like Nordstrom are just getting started. “In 5 years, I could see us with a good number of more employees and a couple more products.”

Taking a route a little less traveled, but thriving in the Rochester just the same.
