(ABC 6 News) - Residents in Albert Lea have been vocal about Mayo Clinic's decision to consolidate some of its inpatient services to the clinic in Austin.

Today, the group Save Our Hospital bussed in people to protest outside Mayo Clinic in Rochester. ABC 6 News Reporter Elise Romas joins us from downtown Rochester with details on today's protest.

Betsy, people flooded this area on 3rd Avenue right across the street from the Gonda Building, chanting to save their hospital. The group brought in close to 200 people from the Albert Lea area. They tell me they're upset that inpatient services like the intensive care unit and labor delivery will be moved to Austin, when they say it's safer and more logical for the community to have those services stay put in Albert Lea.

Mayo Clinic says that 95 percent of the services it offers, like out patient surgery, the cancer center and pre and post natal care will stay in Albert Lea.

In a statement, Mayo writes it feels the Save Our Hospital group's message of the move being 'life-threatening' and 'economically devastating' are not grounded in facts. Mayo also said even though its consolidating, it's still dedicated to preserving jobs and high-quality health care.
