(ABC 6 News) -- After taking a year off, the annual Czech It Out fundraiser returned to the Austin VFW Saturday, raising money for multiple veteran-related causes.
Volunteers at the meal served up central European favorites, including roast pork, potato dumplings, sauerkraut, and kolaches.
The event began several years ago as a way for a local family to help veterans and honor their father, who had served in World War II, Austin VFW Post 1216 Commander Scott Wiechmann said.
"It takes a lot of volunteers to do something like this, and it takes a lot of support from the community that wants to support veterans," he said. "This is just a great fun way to do that and to pay respect to our veterans, especially with Veterans Day coming up, it's even more appropriate."
Wiechmann said they sold out this year after selling 175 tickets.
The money raised will be split between the VFW post, the local VFW Auxiliary and the Austin chapter of the Disabled American veterans.
