Pay it Forward: Small Dog Rescue of MN

May 12, 2017 03:19 PM

(ABC 6 News) – It’s that time again when we pick a local organization or person serving the community for our “ABC 6 News home Federal Bank Pay It Forward Campaign.”

This week’s we surprised Small Dog Rescue of Minnesota, nominated by Christy Clay.

“We’re all volunteer, all foster based, we have no paid employees. So all the donations, everything goes straight to the dogs,” said Erin Underbakke, a board member with Small Dog Rescue.

She says the organization helps save small dogs that are no longer wanted.

“We take in dogs from family surrenders, like people that can’t take care of their dogs anymore, puppy mills, high kill shelters and we get them from pretty much everywhere and anywhere,” said Erin.

Those are just some of the many reasons why Christy Clay nominated Small Dog Rescue for our Pay It Forward Campaign.

The money, Christy believes, will not only help save dogs' lives but also those who depend on them.

“As much as they’re rescuing dogs, they’re rescuing people. And helping people have peace that they know that if there’s a circumstance in their life, they can’t take care of their dog any longer, they can surrender it to Small Dog Rescue,” said Christy.

$600 will be invested into almost 100 dogs that are saved by the organization on average each year.

“Dogs, it’s all gonna go towards the dogs. Any little bit helps. One dog’s life is worth everything,” said Erin.
